noise in image based lighting

First testrenders in Cycles here. I'm rendering a concave object (skull) with a background image and getting lots of noise. I've upped the sampling to 24 and use 3 AO bounces. What other dials can i turn to get rid of this?

24 is so much
I suggest use just 16 samples, and activate the denoiser.

Agreed Mohamed, rendering times went up at 24 samples, but denoising is only ment for stills. Or is it? This is an animation.

it works fine with animation, make sure that you seed the seed to any value other than 0

This type of noise appears in badly lit areas. Also, you can try to use Branched Path Tracing, it is not suited for GPU and slightly slower but I've rendered quite a lot of frames (uninterrupted 18 hours) and didn't experience any GPU driver crashes. That gives me far better results. And turn off AO bounces.

Thank you for the tip Martin, I will try this. I'm rendering on a dual gpu system. Did you render the branched setup on multiple gpu too?

Yes, 3 GPUs.
Change Cycles to Experimental and Sampler Pattern to Correlated Multi Jitter as well.
