Cloner + Multi-shader equivalent?

Post by heyBear » Tue Apr 25, 2017 9:01 pm

I've been watching the presentations at NAB and a lot of techniques involve using a cloner and a multi-shader. Does a multi-shader equivalent exist in Cycles 4D?

Thanks!

EDIT - also want to be able to use individual images/texmaps like the C4D multi-shader, not just color shifting.

Gracias. Is there a forum thread attached to this?

It's from Insydium Content Repository.
You can tweak it to control randomness and load more images/textures.

Hello,

I've been digging into the multi-shader and I'm trying to get some more control. I want to stack up 6 or 7 images onto the clones. The only way to distribute the colors is to nudge around the knots on the color ramp conversion. It's difficult and a lot of guesswork to sort out where the knots should be on the color ramp. Does anyone have any suggestions to get better control of the distribution of the shaders?

I've included my current shader as an example.

Thanks,
Monty

Just amazing and thank you Martin!!!! I will try and dissect this very complex node to gain understanding.

Another thought. Would there potentially be a way to access the index of the clones through an attribute tag and then assign everything numerically? I unfortunately don't have enough knowledge to set up the attribute tag and reveal the correct parameters.

Thanks again

yes you can do this, you will need to store the index using xpresso, then store that inside a point weight tag, use that tag for the attribute node.

you will need to divide the index by the max index (you can get that from xpresso too, or use a number like 100), so weights are > 0 and < 1.

after that you will have each object got weights that represents its index, where you can use that with color ramp node or any other node.

That is definitely a bit out of my range of knowledge, but something to explore. Are there any good tutorials for linking Xpresso and cycles?

Thanks

Just worked out a pretty convenient solution for anyone who's in the same boat..
.
.
.
Plug a Step effector into the cloner.
Turn off the default Scale Parameter & turn Color mode ON.

Boom.. Black and white Clones by index.

Now you can grab the object colour from the Attribute node.

These resources seem to be offline now.

Any new solutions on how to pull random images from a file to use as textures (like Multi-Shader)
